Your role at the organization will be within the IT Operations team, a group of seven dedicated colleagues. Within this team, you will work closely with one other security-focused team member in a small but vital security focus area.
Together, you will proactively ensure the digital security and productivity of colleagues across the organization.
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced IT professional to join our IT Operations team as a Digital Security Specialist covering parental leave. This temporary position runs from mid-April to the end of October 2025.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years of experience with cybersecurity and a strong desire to use their skills to make a positive impact in the world.
In this role, you will play a critical part in safeguarding our organization against cyber-attacks and ensuring the integrity of our systems, accounts, and data.
You will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing the security and stability of our IT infrastructure, focusing on protecting against cyber threats and leveraging the Azure cloud platform.
Collaboration with our 24/7 Security Operations Center (staffed with security specialists) ensures work-life balance, with no expected after-hours work – unless we suffer a security breach.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducting risk assessments, particularly for our Azure cloud environment, endpoints/devices, and office network infrastructure.
- Implementing and monitoring cybersecurity measures across all platforms and networks.
- Deploying security best practices throughout the organization.
- Maintaining momentum on ongoing digital security projects and initiatives.
- Managing and supporting ad-hoc IT projects.
- Ensuring organizational compliance with donor and regulatory requirements, including collaboration with auditors during reviews.
- Collaborating with team members, including the security focus area colleague and other IT professionals, to ensure a secure and productive IT environment.
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications
- At least three years of experience working in digital security-related roles.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and independently.
- Excellent communication skills and a proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant certifications, such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate, Microsoft Certified: Cybersecurity Architect Expert, CISSP, CISM, CCSP, CompTIA, NIST, CEH, or equivalent.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks like ISO 27001, ENISA, EUCC, or Cyber Essentials.
- Experience working for an NGO or a strong desire to work for one.
- Broader IT experience, including Azure/cloud computing administration, technical support, applications and service management, and/or endpoint management.
