About The Department
Connected Research Labs in Digital, Data & IT - Research & Early Development (DDIT-RED) supports the strategic digital transformation of our R&ED organization. The primary mission of the department is to connect our research labs globally through standardized processes, systems and practices, as well as partake in executing on our Future Research Lab aspiration.
What will you be doing?
As an IT/OT Automation Engineer, you will join a project team working on the Lab of the Future within the life sciences industry, where innovation meets cutting-edge technology and scientific advancement. By becoming part of our dynamic team, you will have impact on the future of scientific research and discovery.
In this role you will have the chance to:
- Design and implement automation solutions for laboratory processes and workflows
- Integrate IoT technologies to streamline and optimize laboratory operations
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of automation systems with existing industrial subsystems
- Develop and maintain protocols for effective communication between IT and OT systems
- Provide technical expertise in both IT and OT domains to support the convergence of technology in the laboratory setting
Candidate profile
To be successful in this role, we imagine you have:
- Minimum a bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science or similar field and proven experience (3+ years) in integration technologies and designing solutions for automation
- Proven experience in IT/OT convergence, automation, particularly in manufacturing, lab, or warehouse automation, or similar environments
- Familiarity with industrial protocols such as OPC UA, MQTT, Modbus, CIP, and SparkPlugB for seamless integration with industrial systems
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C#, or similar for developing automation solutions
- Working knowledge of network concepts, compute infrastructure, and monitoring tools to support the automation environment
- Knowledge in DevSecOps process for efficient software delivery
If you have experience with laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and data integration it will be an advantage. If not, this role can be your opportunity to gain it.
Other qualifications that would make you a perfect candidate include knowledge of network architectures, security protocols, edge computing, and PLC/instrument integration. Additionally, proven expertise in seamlessly integrating cloud platforms, particularly Azure or AWS, with operational technologies (OT) and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) to foster scalable, secure, and efficient lab environments will be a big plus. While knowledge of regulatory requirements in the life sciences industry will be the cherry on top.
